Medicine Information

Product information:

Oftra-M DS Suspension is an oral antimicrobial combination containing Ofloxacin and Metronidazole. The combination may be prescribed for selected susceptible bacterial and protozoal infections.

Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent, while Metronidazole has antibacterial and antiprotozoal activity.

Key Benefits:

  • Combines Ofloxacin and Metronidazole to provide broad coverage against bacterial and protozoal infections.
  • Ofloxacin targets a wide range of Gram‑positive and Gram‑negative bacteria, while Metronidazole is effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa.
  • Helps reduce abdominal pain, loose stools, fever, and infection‑related discomfort.
  • Addresses both aerobic and anaerobic pathogens for improved treatment outcomes.
  • Dual‑mechanism therapy helps ensure complete eradication of causative organisms.
  • Higher‑strength suspension allows accurate dosing and convenient administration.
  • Widely used for managing mixed gastrointestinal and enteric infections in pediatric patients.

Directions for use:

Use only as directed by the physician. Shake the bottle well before each use. The dose and duration depend on the patient's age, body weight, type and severity of infection, and clinical condition; do not self-adjust the dose.

Complete the prescribed course unless the treating physician advises otherwise. Do not use leftover antibiotics for a subsequent illness.

Storage and Safety Information:

  • Store in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and moisture. Follow the storage temperature stated on the approved product label; comparable products specify storage below 25–30°C.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Use only under medical supervision, particularly in children.
  • Ofloxacin may cause gastrointestinal, neurological, hypersensitivity and other adverse effects.
  • Metronidazole may cause nausea, abdominal discomfort, headache or a metallic taste.
  • Inform the physician about any history of seizure disorders, kidney or liver disease, or allergy to quinolone or nitroimidazole medicines.
  • Inform the physician about all other medicines being taken to assess possible drug interactions.
  • Antibiotics should be used only when prescribed for an appropriate bacterial/protozoal infection to help minimise antimicrobial resistance.
  • Use in children only under appropriate medical supervision.
  • For use under medical supervision.
