Medicine Information

Product information:

Oftra-M Suspension is a combination of Ofloxacin and Metronidazole used for the treatment of selected bacterial and protozoal infections, particularly certain infections of the gastrointestinal tract. The combination may be prescribed when mixed or susceptible bacterial and protozoal infections are clinically suspected or confirmed.

Ofloxacin acts against susceptible bacteria by inhibiting bacterial DNA replication, while Metronidazole acts against susceptible anaerobic bacteria and protozoa.

Key Benefits:

  • Combines Ofloxacin and Metronidazole to provide broad coverage against bacterial and protozoal infections.
  • Ofloxacin targets a wide range of Gram‑positive and Gram‑negative bacteria, while Metronidazole is effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa.
  • Helps reduce abdominal pain, loose stools, fever, and infection‑related discomfort.
  • Addresses both aerobic and anaerobic pathogens for improved treatment outcomes.
  • Dual‑mechanism therapy helps ensure complete eradication of causative organisms.
  • Suspension form allows accurate dosing and easy administration in children.
  • Widely used for managing mixed gastrointestinal and enteric infections in pediatric patients.

Directions for use:

Shake well before use. Administer orally at the prescribed dose and frequency. It may generally be taken before or after food, as directed by the physician. Do not skip doses or discontinue treatment without medical advice. Do not use this medicine for viral infections such as the common cold or influenza.

The dose and duration, particularly in children, should be determined by the physician according to age, body weight, type and severity of infection.

Storage and Safety Information:

  • Store in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Keep out of reach and sight of children.
  • Common adverse effects may include nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, headache or dizziness.
  • Ofloxacin, as a fluoroquinolone, may rarely be associated with serious tendon, nerve or central nervous system adverse effects; seek medical advice if symptoms occur.
  • Inform the physician about any history of seizure disorders, kidney or liver disease, or allergy to quinolone or nitroimidazole medicines.
  • Inform the physician about all other medicines being taken to assess possible drug interactions.
  • Antibiotics should be used only when prescribed for an appropriate bacterial/protozoal infection to help minimise antimicrobial resistance.
  • Use in children only under appropriate medical supervision.
  • For use under medical supervision.
