Medicine Information

Product information:

Almetra Tablet contains Itraconazole, a triazole antifungal medicine used for the treatment of certain fungal infections. It may be prescribed for infections affecting the skin, nails, mouth, and other tissues, depending on the type and severity of the fungal infection.

It works by inhibiting the production of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane, thereby helping to stop fungal growth.

Key Benefits:

  • Effective against dermatophytes, yeasts (Candida), and systemic fungi.
  • Inhibits ergosterol synthesis that disrupts fungal cell membrane integrity.
  • Concentrates in skin, nails, and mucosa ensuring targeted therapy for superficial and systemic infections.
  • Stops fungal growth at therapeutic levels; kills fungi at higher concentrations.
  • Capsule dosing ensures ease of administration and patient compliance.
  • Selective fungal targeting with minimal systemic side effects.
  • Useful in infections unresponsive to topical antifungals.
  • Widely prescribed for onychomycosis, dermatophytosis, and systemic mycoses.

Directions for use:

Take Almetra exactly as prescribed by your physician. Swallow the capsule whole with water; do not crush, chew or open it. Take the medicine at the same time each day if prescribed as a regular course. Complete the prescribed duration of treatment, even if symptoms improve earlier.

If you are taking antacids or medicines that reduce stomach acidity, ask your doctor or pharmacist about appropriate timing because reduced stomach acidity can affect absorption of itraconazole capsules.

Storage and Safety Information:

  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart failure, liver disease or kidney disease.
  • Itraconazole can rarely cause serious liver problems. Seek medical attention if you develop unusual tiredness, loss of appetite, persistent nausea/vomiting, dark urine, pale stools or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
  • Seek medical attention if you develop shortness of breath, swelling of the legs, rapid weight gain or unusual fatigue, as itraconazole may rarely worsen or cause heart failure.
  • Itraconazole has significant drug interactions. Inform your doctor about all prescription medicines, OTC medicines and supplements you are taking before starting treatment.
  • Inform your healthcare professional if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding. Itraconazole should generally be used during pregnancy only when specifically indicated by a physician.
  • Do not self-medicate or use itraconazole for prolonged periods without medical supervision.
