Medicine Information

Product information:

Abactum-CV Tablet is a prescription antibacterial combination containing Cefuroxime and Clavulanic Acid. The combination is used for the treatment of selected bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, as determined by the treating healthcare professional.

Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that acts by inhibiting bacterial cell-wall synthesis, while Clavulanic Acid helps inhibit certain bacterial β-lactamase enzymes, thereby helping protect cefuroxime against enzymatic degradation.

Key Benefits:

  • Cefuroxime provides potent bactericidal activity, while Clavulanic Acid inhibits β‑lactamase enzymes to enhance antibiotic effectiveness.
  • Effective against a wide range of Gram‑positive and Gram‑negative bacteria, including resistant β‑lactamase‑producing strains.
  • Clavulanic Acid protects Cefuroxime from enzymatic degradation, ensuring reliable clinical outcomes.
  • Commonly prescribed for sinusitis, tonsillitis, otitis media, bronchitis, and lower respiratory tract infections.
  • Effective against urinary tract infections, skin infections, and soft tissue infections.
  • Dual‑action mechanism reduces the risk of treatment failure and recurrent infections.
  • Easy‑to‑take tablet formulation improves patient adherence and treatment compliance.

Directions for use:

Take Abactum-CV Tablet only as prescribed by the physician. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless specifically advised. It is generally taken with food, at evenly spaced intervals as prescribed.

Complete the full prescribed course, even if symptoms improve earlier. If a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless it is nearly time for the next dose. Do not double the dose.

Storage and Safety Information:

  • Store in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • This is a prescription antibiotic and should be used only under medical supervision.
  • Do not use in patients with a known serious allergy to cefuroxime, cephalosporins, penicillins or other β-lactam antibiotics. Serious hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, have been reported.
  • Common adverse effects may include diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal discomfort.
  • Inform the physician about any history of drug allergies, kidney problems, gastrointestinal disorders, pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Medicines that reduce stomach acidity may reduce the bioavailability of cefuroxime axetil, and certain medicines such as probenecid can affect cefuroxime exposure. Inform the physician about all medicines being taken.
  • Antibiotics should be used only when clinically indicated and should not be used for viral infections such as the common cold.
